Donner collectivement du sens à l'avenir touristique d'un territoire

Abstract : Sustainable development of a tourist area requires commitment from all those involved. What awareness is there of this principle amongst the institutional actors in the tourism industry ? How do they consider the issues of tourism development ? Twenty-five local managers, either local government officers, or heads of associations, were interviewed individually. They also were invited to take part in a collective exchange to share their representations of the issues of tourism development. The way the various managers work, interpret their environment and give a meaning to their actions, shows that the coordination of discussions and actions in the particular region is, in their own opinion, the priority for a sustainable tourist destination. Can we consider this community of practice as a privileged space for the actors, allowing them to develop meaning around issues of common interest ? We shall examine the conditions for the emergence and functioning of the dynamics of the collective action of local authorities.
